I would absolutely choose Logic as a creative platform for writing and developing musical ideas, and more than once I have had Logic sessions successfully turn into the full-blown master session for a record, without moving the ideas into Pro Tools or Reaper. Those are tasks I would rather entrust to either Pro Tools or to Reaper, which I have found to be the fastest, most-stable, and most CPU-efficient DAW for big recording projects. Similarly, I would not typically want to rely on Logic with a room full of studio musicians burning thousands of dollars per hour and 64+ channels of simultaneous IO, for example. I would not ordinarily choose to use Logic to record a band over a months-long album project with hundreds of plugins and multiple nested folders and complex routing, etc. Reaper is my favorite alternative to Pro Tools if I am actually doing actual studio recording and mixing type stuff. That said, Logic is prone to be a bit buggy and crashy, and it is quite a bit more limited than Pro Tools or Reaper when it comes to technical audio engineering tasks like editing, routing, pocketing drums, and managing large (100+ track) sessions with lots of busses and so on. Garageband is the "lite" version, so try it and see if you like it. It's just a great environment for creating and working out song ideas, and it comes with everything, so you can stay totally in the creative/artistic headspece. My favorite DAW for creating original music (writing and produciton) is Logic, due to its simple layout and brilliant integration with a whole bunch of high-quality virtual instruments, virtual drummers, sound effects, looping tools, and so on. I use Reaper, Logic, and Pro Tools regularly (and occasionally other DAWS, as well).
